Zach Wilson finds new QB gig with Fins

After some flirting with the Denver Broncos at the NFL Trade Deadline, the Miami Dolphins have finally landed their backup quarterback, signing Zach Wilson to a one-year deal for $6 million, according to ESPN.
Wilson will spell the oft-injured Tua Tagovailoa and could earn up to $10 million.
The Broncos added Wilson last off-season for some movement late in the 2024 Draft. In doing so, the Broncos got the former No. 2 pick for very little. It was part reclamation projection, part backup quarterback for Sean Payton and crew. Wilson lost the most yards in the league to sacks during his rookie year and was tagged for 113 in just 34 career games. But he also led five game-winning drives and is a former AFC Player of the Week. Still, the former BYU Cougar was more known for throwing 25 interceptions to 23 touchdowns on just 57% passing in his career.
Luckily, in Bronocs Country, they found their quarterback in Bo Nix and he stayed healthy, so Wilson only got run in the preseason. And the Broncos decided earlier on Monday that Nix’s backup will be the more veteran journeyman Jarrett Stidham. He stays on a two-year deal for up to $12 million.
The trio of quarterbacks last season were credited by Payton for being such a good room, with the experienced guys helping Nix succeed in his rookie season.
“It’s a unique room, both Zach and Jared are free agents, one of the musts—if a player is on our board, even though he was with us if he’s a free agent,” Payton said from the NFL Scouting Combine. “So that that’s a must. We have to secure who the backup is. There is probably a few moving parts there, but I was really pleased with the room. And then the uniqueness off the field, those guys get along well. And really work well together.”
Miami had interest in bringing in Wilson at the NFL Trade Deadline to backup Tagovailoa, who had already been hurt, but went with former Pro Bowler Tyler Huntley.
Wilson goes back to the AFC East, where he started 33 games for the New York Jets, including some in 2023.
